Cuba – let's hurry to travel, it can change so quickly! (introduction)
If you follow our blog, you probably remember an opportunity a few months ago that we quite actively promoted. At the beginning of the year there was an offer for cheap flights to the Caribbean by the then unknown airline Air Europa.
Flights cost about PLN 700 per person round trip, so the question immediately arose: and where is the catch here? The hook was, one – flying out of Madrid. A quick calculation of the cost of the flight, the calculation of vacation days and we were already sitting at the laptop with passports and credit card in hand.
Our dream has come true – we bought tickets to Cuba!
When Cuba will change?
We had always wanted to fly to Cuba, and the recent changes in relations between Cuba and the United States motivated us even more – we wanted to see the island as it had been for the past 50-60 years. So it would be a sin not to take advantage of such an opportunity 😉
The warming of relations, the opening of financial markets, the increase in the frequency of flights and ferries, and, well, easier to obtain a visa, all mean that Cuba will no longer be the same country. The only question that remains is whether these changes will be for the worse or for the better, but that is left in the hands of “Comrades”.
What we certainly recommend to you right from the start is to fly to Cuba as soon as possible! Before it changes! Before a raid by American tourists and American capital changes the place…
Planning…
So the opportunity arose – we bought tickets for the end of the season, ie. the end of April and the beginning of May, so we had some time to quietly organize the whole trip.
Of the things that need to be taken care of before departure are, of course visa (You can through the Embassy in Warsaw or intermediaries e.g. travel agencies), accommodation i insurance.
Note – to get a visa, it is necessary to confirm the reservation of accommodation! There is unlikely to be a problem with a visa, accommodation is also easy to book. But forget about Booking or AirBnB (at the time of writing this post, you still can't book accommodation from Poland). Accommodations are booked by email, and you will need a printout of your confirmation and the address of the lodging (or hotel) for at least the first day of your stay in Cuba for your visa application. You will still need plane tickets for your visit.
Much more will not be arranged remotely 🙂 We planned our trip, ie. The route we wanted to take, but without much detail. We were counting on the fact that accommodation and transportation could be arranged locally (Internet in Cuba is definitely a luxury good, that is, for us it is paradise on earth!).
Are you curious how we did? How Cubans live without the Internet, cars and all sorts of goods that we have on a daily basis, but do not appreciate them?
In the coming days we will post here an account of this fantastic adventure.
